A few days before the start of summer we see a few essential rules to keep the lawn in good health even in the hot season. How to take care of your garden in three fundamental steps: watering, cutting, fertilizing.

In summer, high temperatures suggest giving your garden more water. But it is necessary to proceed carefully. To establish the frequency it is necessary to evaluate the temperature, the climate, the type of grass and the soil. If we are in the presence of clayey soil we recommend less watering, while in of sandy soils it is best to intensify. A rule that is always valid in all seasons is to leave the bottom dry. Before watering again, make sure that the soil has well absorbed the previous one. This way your lawn will develop a deep root system which will make it more resistant to heat and disease.
Remember to water only in the morning and evening and always check that the lawn's water needs do not conflict with that of the trees and flowers growing nearby. A uniform dose of water for all forms of plant life in your garden will allow you to have luxuriant growth and enjoy a truly impactful aesthetic result.
A very important operation is always cutting the grass. In summer you need to cut regularly to ensure optimal growth. In the warmer months we suggest you cut the lawn at least once every 10-15 days, being careful not to shorten it too much to prevent it from burning and becoming dry. Generally we intervene when the lawn has a height of 6-7 cm to bring it back to 4-5 cm. Before proceeding with cutting, make sure that the ground is dry and, unless cutting is very sparse and the climate is really hot, remember to always remove the cut grass and prevent the layer of cuttings from preventing the penetration of water, oxygen and nutrients. Keep in mind not to mow during the hottest hours of the day but in the evening when the temperature is milder to prevent the lawn from drying out too much.
To have a thick lawn the trick is all in the good structure of the soil. Promoting oxygenation is essential. At the beginning of spring and autumn, aerate the surface by making holes with the tines of a fork throughout the entire garden area. You can then distribute a layer of sand over the surface, making it easier to penetrate with a rake.
We have seen that fertilization can be done in autumn and then at the beginning of spring to support the start of the vegetative activity of the lawn. From March to May every 20/30 days it is best to distribute a fertilizer rich in nitrogen, essential for their growth.
During the summer it may be useful not to finish nourishing the garden. During the summer you can administer ferrous fertilizers which are often also called greening agents. Unlike those that are used at other times of the year, these are used when the plants are at the height of their vegetative vigor and require a greater amount of iron. For the summer there are solutions to dissolve in water to enrich the soil during watering.
The garden is very demanding, but if well cared for it will reward you by giving you some exceptional views that will repay you for all the work done. On hot afternoons and summer evenings you will be able to relax and observe the calm that only your garden will be able to give you.
