Water is a fundamental element for our flowers and plants in all seasons of the year. In winter, with low temperatures, the soil is therefore less dry and therefore a minimum dose of water is needed. If this is true for the greenery of your garden, the situation is different for the flowers in your home. Heat from radiators can lead to drier soil. At home it is therefore necessary to carefully balance the water doses. To do this best we recommend a dispenser to spray water on the plants during the week. Last thing: always use water at room temperature and not cold. Temperatures that are too low can harm your plant.
Just like water, the soil is also a fundamental element to be looked after with great attention. First of all we recommend that you always do an initial visual and tactile analysis to evaluate its compactness and hydration. Remember that each plant has its own particular needs. The cyclamen, a> for example, it always needs moist soil. Don't forget that this is the time of year when you need to use nutrient-rich fertilizers to best protect the plant's roots. Here too it depends a lot on where your flowers are placed. If they are in an apartment, a lighter nutritional support will be needed, for the garden the intervention will have to be more important and with the use of many fundamental substances such as phosphorus, nitrogen and potassium. Always remember that good work "in the field" in winter will be seen in spring.
The third element to never forget is light. With water and earth they are the three basic components for the growth and well-being of any plant species. During winter there are fewer hours of sunshine compared to other seasons of the year, it is therefore necessary to place the flowers in strategic positions so that they can get as much light as possible. If your plants are on the balcony we advise you to expose them during the hottest hours and remove them when the temperatures drop. If you want to keep a plant that needs little light, we can certainly recommend the Ficus.
We have seen that there are some flowers that bloom in winter a>and they can be kept on the balcony during the cold season. Despite this, it is good practice to protect them from frost. As? With some simple precautions that make the difference. Try to move pots and planters to a sheltered area. The ideal is to use a small number of micro-perforated sheets that allow the plants to receive light and be protected from the cold. Another excellent solution is to place the plants next to a wall, in this way they will have more heat or you can put a layer of styrofoam under the pot for added insulation. A plant that can stay, with due care, on your balcony for the entire winter season is the heather.
At the end of the season, don't forget to prune your plants. This is a very important action that must be carried out throughout the cold season. Although plants are made to grow on their own, pruning is useful for healthy development and preventing some diseases
